Funky Darlin' Art

Funky Darlin' artwork is an original  gesture art in watercolor with prints made from originals. Artwork comes ready to mat and frame or for use as greeting and/or holiday cards.   Commissioned art pieces may be requested. "Girlfriend Darlins' is an example of one of a series of  Girlfriend Darlin' watercolor originals. 

Barbara Meredith Nichols has given true meaning to "coming full circle".  Born in Montgomery, Alabama, Barbara was raised in Andalusia, Alabama.  She is a career educator with a BS and MAT in Consumer and Family Life Education. She has taught everything from Interior Design to Leadership.  Her expertise in design began the perfection of her art talents.  After a successful teaching career in Florida, Alabama, Connecticut, and North Carolina, she returned with her husband, Nick, to her hometown to begin a new career.  She developed a health routine and found herself mixing exercise with art.  She created "The Dancing Ladies", an original gesture drawing of dancing women.  She used the drawing in an advertising flyer to attract women to the dancing exercise class.  Since the creation of the funky ladies, Barbara has drawn and painted many fun characters who sport gestures that speak of life moments better than photographs.  The art characters often lack mouths, noses, hands, and sometimes feet, but one can see the meaning of their moment through their gestures.  Thus, came the name of the artwork, " Funky Darlins' ".

 Ready, Set, GO Darlins' "

A group of young women from Andalusia, Alabama trained for the Breast Cancer Marathon held in Atlanta in 2005.   Barbara volunteered "Ready, Set, GO for the group's theme banner in memory of her mother, Sybil Evans Meredith, who died of breast cancer in 1984.

" SPIRIT DARLIN' " SERIES

Many of the Funky Darlins' fall into a series. 

 To the right is " Andy Darlin' " one of several Spirit Darlins'. Barbara can tailor any Darlin' after a life figure and transform the Darlin' into ' your own Funky Darlin' '.  The resulting Darlin' will look surprising like the real life character it was designed for.

Barbara can catch a human movement with the gesture art.  The movement needs no words. The gesture tells it all.

"Golf Buddies" evolved from such a moment.
